Should I get a financial planner?

Rob L asked:

I’ve been thinking more and more laterly about hiring a financial advisor to help me with asset allocation, retirement planning, tax shelter opportunities, and a bunch of things that I have no idea about.

Does anyone here use a financial advisor? Has it been a wise decision?
*I already read Kiyosaki’s lame book, thanks.

*not from the States

you should thoroughly educate yourself in financial matters so you can best assess what’s good for you given your lifetime goals & current capabilities. any man should be able to do that for himself.

for a start, get robert kiyosaki’s “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”

    good luck

Don’t worry about money! Obama is going to save everyone! Remember! If he gets his way, everyone will be living off of the government.

i actually use a financial planner. i used to manage all of my own accounts and did fine, but with my financial planner, i’m doing better than fine now. he is a cpa and a cfa so he makes sure that i get everything i should be back from taxes and puts the money in the right places so that it is always making money, even in this economic climate. i agree that you should educate yourself, but taking that next step to financial security with a planner is not a bad idea. just make sure that the person you use knows what he or she is doing.
