What are you charged for financial planning or investment advice?

j_m_camilleri asked:

Many financial services providers tout their financial advice as being for free. But we all know nobody does anything for free. Aparently there are a bewlidering number of ways in which investment advisors make their money such as trading commissions, hourly frees, trailer fees, management fees, performance fees and so on.

I would like to hold an online survey to gauge which methods most Y!Answers users come across and their views on each method or which method their prefer most.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

I need a financial advisor?

Jamal a asked:

Im currently 19yrs old and I want to make a financial plan for my future. I have a job now but am getting laid off in 2 months. I have 15k in the bank from savings (money market account). Im very business saavy. I have read plenty of books relating to business and investing. One thing in common that ive acquired from the books are that I should go to a financial advisor and set up a financial plan for my future. Remember… i want to start a business between my 20-30years of age. Is it recommended to go to a financial planner now even though i wont be having a job for a while? I honestly just want a good layout of a plan that will get me to starting a business and becoming financially secure.

Financial Advisor?

Me asked:

Hi,
Does it worth to hire a Financial Advisor to plan your future growth? How do we make sure they know what they’re doing?
When it comes to talk to one of them, what are the “must” questions I should ask? Thank you.
Sorry if my question wasn’t clear. I’m not looking for a Financial Advisor job. I’m looking to talk to one of them to discuss about how they can service me for my finance.

Entry level job ideas if i want to become Financial Advisor later in career?

Kellen K asked:

I will be graduating from a 4 year university with a major in Finance this upcoming spring. I don’t have any work experience or previous internships. I have thought about going to grad school to get my MBA but many people have said it is not as valuable until one gets work experience. So, with this being said, I am somewhat clueless as to what entry-level positions I should consider after graduation.

My ultimate goal is to become a financial advisor, which I know will take many year. After at least 3 years of valid work experience, I would like to attempt to get my CFP also. This being said, I am not sure what the best first step would be as an entry-level job if these are my goals. Also, I live in the midwest now and plan to move to the south after graduating. So, I would be looking for jobs in the carolinas, georgia, or florida…if that matters at all. I know I have asked/said a lot, but I would really like to know what steps to make after graduating. Thank you.

what’s the deal with financial firms like edward jones?

lizziegirly815 asked:

I’m trying to be a smart cookie and start saving/planning for my life (i’m almost 24) I really don’t have money, but I have money in Edward Jones in mutual funds. Does this mean I am paying the financial advisor/ Edward Jones a part of my interest or something? Should I be investing on my own? Being that I don’t have much money, I can’t afford to ask a professional financial advisor. Even if someone could recommend an easy to understand book about how to invest/save, etc. Believe me, I’m really good about not spending frivolously, and I”m not in debt, except for college loans. Please help :-/

I am looking for a professional to discuss the planning for a mortgage and the building of credit. any advice?

Beth asked:

I guess what I wanrt to differentiate from is someone like a financial advisor, who is there to advise on different investments and such. I simply want to sit down and talk to someone who will help me make a plan on what to do with my current mortgage, how to use the equity I have there and continue on.

What about a career as a Personal Financial Advisor?

Yahooforever asked:

I have been interested in becoming a Personal Financial Advisor for quite awhile now. I will be a senior in high school next year and I was wondering if anybody could give me any advice on this career? Not just the basic advice that counselors give because I’ve already been to enough of those. I need inside advice. Such as personal experiences with financial advisors, or maybe someone that is one. Thanks in advance. It is much appreciated.

A little about me: I am outgoing, good with people, I am the youngest employee in a customer service phone center for a major magazine company in my area, I’m already invested in stocks and mutual funds while the majority of my peers don’t even know what that is. So obviously I’m committed. Any advice that is beyond generic would be of help.

BTW I am completely serious about this career. I’ve already got some college classes planned and ready to go for after high school.

Do I see a financial advisor/planner, or someone else entirely?

my_dodge_rules asked:

So I am not sure who I am supposed to use, or even if there is a difference.
I am looking for someone that can put us on a budget, and help us to plan for retirement.
Someone who would look over all of our bills and help us form the best plan of action.
So who should I be looking for? And how do I know if they are any god or not?
