To actual financial advisors / planners?
Cobra_Stang asked:
In terms of a career in financial planning, I like helping people, and I am good with numbers, I don’t even have a problem “selling” like explaining things to people so they understand why a certaini product or strategy is better…
My question is, are there any positions out there that you don’t have to go out and cold call and what not to find your own clients? I like the planning part, but not the finding new clients part.

What are the general terms of an Ameriprise contract? If I begin the financial planning, when can I end the agreement? Is it a year or is the agreement automatically renewed?

What type of financial advisor to seek for in this situation?
Ihearya asked:
My senior in-law parents have been VERY foolish with their money all their lives and still are.
They wanted a budget plan, so my hubby helped them, and they won’t stick to it. They continually live in denial and rack up their huge debt.
So as they won’t listen to family, we figured maybe if we get a real financial advisor for them they would do something about it. Perhaps this person can look at all the numbers and give it to them straight . . . shape up or xyz will happen. Maybe this person can set a budget plan for them that they must stick to.
Who exactly do we do a search for to do this type of thing? Is it costly? We’re afraid very soon they are not going to have enough money to live out the rest of their lives.
THANKS.
Sharon B - exactly - in our situation also though, you cannot beat a dead horse. They live a lifestyle too far beyond their means . . . they will be in deep you-know-what soon. They want/need help - but live in seriousl denial to do anything about it. They think things will just “work out”. Sigh.

Where can I find an independent financial advisor? On personal matters not business?
ASH asked:
I am looking for an independent financial advisor who can help me with my personal finances not any business ones. I have run up some debts on some credit cards and a loan and need some good independent advice on the best way to help manage this and pay off the debt as it is getting out of hand.
I have already been to the citizen’s advice bureau who to be honest were very nice but not very helpful. I don’t want to go to my bank as they will just try to sell me something I probably don’t want.
What I do want is to sit down with someone and go through all my personal finance and to then help me draw out a plan and give me some good advice as I’m not very good at these things. I do not mind paying a fee to the financial advisor to help me. I have tried looking up for an advisor on the internet but all that comes up is stuff about mortgages and business stuff
I live in Buckinghamshire so someone in and around that area or even London would be good to get in contact with.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
ASH

Any financial advisor?
eshie asked:
Does anyone know anything about a 10B5-1 plan? I am a financial advisor, but I can not find a lot of information on this type of plan, and my compliance department tells me “about” the plan and how to open it. Does anyone have experience with a 10B5-1 plan for insider trading?
From what I know about the plan, it is for corporate executive that are deemed “insider” and they will be able to trade there companies stock, with out a 144 file. 10B5-1 is just the SEC code. It is not a common plan, but I have a business owner that has a lot of his own companies stock, and he wants tax advantages, and the ability to sell whenever he wants. “insider” is not a illegal, it is just someone that “knows inside information” that is not public. They can own the stock, but they are restricted to how they sell. This is not for a trade “right now” but I would always like to have a plan to hedge, if something suddenly changes….like the 2000 bubble…NOTHING illegal
You can resell web domain for good profits if done correctly

What are some steps I can take to become a FINANCIAL ANAYLST/ADVISOR?
queenitra00 asked:
I am a junior in college majoring in Banking and Finance. I am highly interested in working in investments and helping people plan for retirement. I aced a class project dealing with this and my teacher, as well as the whole class, said I found my niche. However, besides doing well in school, what are some steps or career paths I can follow to become a financial analyst. I am really passionate about helping people plan for retirement and I also see that it pays great money but you have to have 5 years of experience or more. If there are any CFOs or Financial Analyst/Advisors (and/or career counselors), I would glady take your advice and my appreciation is extended. It’s usually hard for college students to find their niche. I’ve found mine and I want to know some good tips or paths to follow. Thank you.

Financial Advisors, and fees. which ones are appropriate, what is fair?
mobyisaparrothead asked:
12b-1 fees- are unfair
a high consulting fee is unfair (even if it apears to have value)
Trading money adds costs… many to a stock brokers pocket.
Assets under management fee… what is fair?
semi philosophical
Call me dismal, I don’t trust any advisors because they hide fees– they smile, then line their pockets. They preach methods that compensate them the most.
I’m still not actively trying to grow a financial planning practice because I can’t determine how I want to charge, in fear of overcharging.
(It took almost 2 years to find a happy medium with mortgages in terms of fees and compensation, and finally, I found the fairest, most competitive amount, and it was low. Now I want to learn the same for what is fair to potential clients)
Any suggestions would be great and appriciated
